Michael Jr.

January 11, 2007

Most all of you are familiar with the event's concerning the pre-mature birth of my grand-twins Chloe and Michael McWilliams. Michael Jr. is currently in the hospital and waiting for brain surgery today. He's been a sick little guy, with ear infections that refuse to go away. Yesterday his temperature rose to 105 despite the medications he was on. It was another trip back to the emergency room. Nancy called me about 6 AM, the doctors had done an MRI. Michael Jr has a 3" abscess on the left side of his brain and is scheduled to have surgery today to take it out. This abscess was noticed Dec 19 during a CT scan, but doctors didn't really know what it was. Since that time, it has tripled in size and is now about 3 inches long.

Surgery will be as soon as a doctor is free to do it. They will have to remove a portion of his skull to get to the abscess and then pray they get it all. Worst case scenario, the abscess could rupture, sending the fluid through-out his body and of course I won't even say what would most likely happen then. Fortunately, the abscess is on the opposite side of his shunt. If it was close to his shunt, it could drain fluid into the shunt which would go directly into his abdomen and the results would be tragic to say the least.

This little boy at 2 1/2, has had so many surgeries already, and this is just another one. I am certain all will be well in the end. Michael Jr. will spend 4-5 days in the hospital for recovery and to insure the abscess is completely gone. I will be with him all day Friday and will be spending Saturday and Saturday night with him most likely. Please pray for Michael Jr, the doctors who are going to operate on him today, and his parents.
