Home Again

June 9, 2007

Here I am, home again after a wonderful trip to Nebraska and Missouri. I was lucky enough to be able to spend quality time with my son, William, & his family. We had a great time. Since Nebraska is my 'stompin grounds' we did not do the tourist thing. We did go out to the Platte River and he showed me where the Platte and Missouri Rivers come together. I took pictures and you can see them on the picture page. I took my camera the first day, but of course being the super smart put together person I am, I didn't take it the second day. The second day William caught a huge fish! I think it weighed 20-30 pounds! It was longer than William's little boy Izaya and he is 2 years old. All in all we had a great time. William is the hunter in our family. He has a couple guns, a really nice bow, and several fishing rods. He is a good shot, I've got one of his practice targets. 8 out of 10 shots in the bulls eye and the other two in the ring just outside the bulls eye. With a bow he is just as good, in fact I saw the arrow he shot and then split with the second arrow. That is good aim!! Shoot I can't hit the broad side of a barn when I am on the broad side, 10 ft away!!!!!!

After Williams house I flew to Joplin Missouri to stay with my sister for a week. I had quite a long wait in Omaha due to plane repairs. That was OK, I curled up and read my book. I moved from gate 19 to gate 11 after the ticket supervisor advised me that the plane would be coming in to that gate. No problem. After awhile a young couple showed up. They had a 6 month old baby and I'd say a 4 year old. The 4 year old was thrilled to be flying and he knew every plane that came or went was their plane. Finally mine came. I say mine because I was the only one on the plane!! The supervisor came up to me and said "Mrs. Devries, your private chartered jet awaits." As I walked to the door I could feel the eyes on the young couple looking at me as if to say 'who is she??' Everyone else had been re routed to their destinations, I was the only one going to Joplin! I flew in little puddle jumper airplanes, that only seat about 20, but it was still fun. I got to watch the pilot and copilot fly the plane, and I got to see take off and landing, up close and personal, and that is something I'd never seen. It was a pretty neat experience!

At my sisters house we did all the normal sister stuff. Talked a mile a minute non stop! When we were not chattering a mile a minute, non stop, we were playing with her new grand baby girl, Ava. Ava is now 2 months old. She weighs 9 pounds and is 22 inches long. Ava had a bit of a rough start during the first month of her life with a bout of jaundice and spent 4 days in the hospital. All is well now, she is nursing like there is no tomorrow and everyone is happy again. She is absolutely adorable, Jim and Judie are completely in awe of her and so happy to be grandparents! Dianna is a great Mommy, and of course Frank is a great Daddy.

I almost forgot, while I was at my sisters we had a great adventure. It was my lucky day to stop up the kitchen plumbing. Boy did I stop it good. Jim had to take the pipe and saw it off because the snake was not long enough. Jim said I did not stop up the plumbing, (because Judie and I cleaned out the fridge and I put most of it down the disposal, so it was MY fault.) Anyway, during that time we worked until 9 PM trying to unplug the drain. Jim said I will fix it tomorrow. He did. But while it was plugged up, Judie was in the basement. All of a sudden she holler's upstairs 'hey Susie, are you afraid of snakes?' Nope, not me. Down I went to see the snake! It was a little garden snake, and it was in the water of the sump pump. Of course it was cold as could be so I reached in and picked it up. We took it outside and put it down in the grass and sun. Oh my was it a happy camper!

The next day Judie's friend, Lynn, came over and we all went down stairs and sewed. The quilt guild that Judie belongs to make baby quilts to donate and I actually sewed a quilt top together. Talk about boosting my confidence on quilting. Oh man oh man. I am sure now that I will be making quilts for years to come.

So, now I am home again. My husband and kitties were happy to see me. Last night Robert and Janae stopped by for a few minutes with Autumn. I was so happy to see that little munchkin! She put her arms up and came right to me! Of course, that made me very happy too. Hope all is well in web land. Talk to all of you later.
