Green Valley

Green Valley is a retirement community located about 20 miles south of Tucson, Arizona and about 35 miles north of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico on Interstate 19. The traditional boundaries for this unincorporated area, founded in 1964, are Duval Mine Road on the north, Canoa Ranch on the south, the copper mine to the west and the Santa Cruz River to the east. There are about 25,000 year round residents and many more that migrate down from the cold for the winter. The 4 states that contribute the most winter residents are Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Ohio.

Since we first came here about 13 years ago the growth as been unbelievable. There are subdivisions springing up all over and many new businesses have opened. In many of the subdivisions one of the residents in each dwelling must be at least 55 years old. You do see a lot of little white or blue heads driving big cars down the road.

There are many churches and at least 8 golf courses, several good restaurants and a great library with 20 computers with online access. There are no schools. The children that live in Green Valley attend school in Sahuarita, a town that is immediately north of Green Valley. There are large pecan groves located on the east side of town and a large pecan processing plant in Sahuarita.

And that's pretty much it for Green Valley/Sahuarita. It is a very nice place to spend the winter.
