Presidential Library

February 18, 2008

Today was President's Day and Bill had the day off. Here in Little Rock is the Clinton Library. Today only was free admission. Highlight of going was a replica of the White House! It was fantastic to say the least. We waited in line with many other people for about a half hour to get to see this thing up close and personal. It took over 42 years and 500,000 man hours to complete. It is an exact replica of today's White House. In one of the pictures you see a book case with books. Those are actual books with pages! There is a working TV in it which was tuned to Channel 7. If you could see the TV screen it would be showing exactly what is on Channel 7 currently. The model dimensions are 1" = 1 ft. All lights work, there is a rug that is hand made, and absolutely precise.

It was just amazing to go! It was well worth the wait to see it. After we left Bill took some pictures outside of the 'front' of the White House. Some of the pictures, The Oval Office, are upstairs, the seal of the President on the ceiling. In the replica, that same seal is on the ceiling! The detail is just astounding. If you have the chance to go to see this exhibit, I'd highly recommend it.

Since we were already inside, we browsed the library. Nothing spectacular in my estimation. I did take a picture of a neat chair, an odd Christmas tree, the dog, (what's his name?) and Socks the Cat. In one of the pictures is a dining table set with china. Upstairs is the same dining table with the same china, all hand made. I got a close up of the plate, it has the white house on it. Beautiful china. The pictures of the rooms are from the replica. The are so exact that you cannot tell if they are a replica or the real thing! I have many more pictures, but I thought I'd get into picture overload.
