Ian - Hernia

April 22, 2008

We met with the surgeon today and really liked him. He said it's pretty much a routine surgery. He looked at Ian's and said "it's a doosie"!  When the hernia is 'out' all the way, the left side of his scrotum hangs over 2 inches long.
Surgery is scheduled for this Thursday at 7 a.m. We have to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. He will be able to go home about 3 hours after the surgery. The doctor said we will be amazed at how little pain he will be in. He said that Tylenol will be all he'll need afterward. The hardest part will be not letting him have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before. We are a good 40 minutes from the hospital (French Hospital)- he will want his milk and I'm sure his bottle. That part is going to suck. But not as bad as worrying about my baby going under anesthetic.
Anyway, we go tomorrow to register him at the hospital. He will have blood taken and have to pee in a cup. Yea right! Chris called and told them he's two and just started going in the potty and there is no way he will pee on command. He asked if we could just bring in his pee. They told him he couldn't bring in the pee! That should be interesting.
Thank you for everyone who wrote me back. I appreciate the support. I will write you back. I worked tonight and tomorrow we'll be in SLO all day with the boys doctors, but I will write back.
Talk to you all soon.

From April 21, 2008
I took Ian to the Dr. this morning- most of you know that one side of his scrotum has been larger than the other since birth. His doctors have always said to wait and see if the fluid absorbs. His doctor now, Dr. Peterson, said wait until he is 2. Well he's 2 now and at the same time it's getting worse. This morning Dr. Peterson felt it again and said he felt a hernia. So we see the surgeon today at 2:00. I'm sure it will be fairly simple, as far as surgery goes. But I'm still freaking out- a bit. I thought I'd put it out there in case you guys have gone through this with your kids, or yourself, and can give me a heads up.

AND...

Tomorrow Braden has a consult with an ENT, (Dr. Malotte the same doctor who did my thyroid cancer surgeries). His tonsils are so huge that the one side blocks half of his throat passageway.

So far Ally doesn't have any consults scheduled! ha ha
