Ian, Braden, Ally

April 23, 2008

We preregistered Ian today at French Hospital. They took blood. He sat so still on Chris' lap through the whole thing. When she put in the needle he had a whining whimper that lasted until she took it out. That was it! When they put the cotton ball and the non sticky tape around his arm is when he freaked out and started crying. He had to pee in a cup also. That was pretty funny. He just started peeing on the toilet about a week ago, and so he's not peeing on command yet. We walk into the lab and he started to hold himself, so I ask if he had to go and he said yes. So I run into an office where a lady is at her desk. I told her my son is going to have to leave a urine sample and he has to go NOW, can I get a cup??? She hopped up and grabbed a cup and we booked it to the bathroom. All that was open was the mens- no big deal and better still since it had the urinal (which he had no interest in, nor did I, those are gross) .... So I hold the cup up to him and tell him go ahead, pee in the cup. He starts to go and looks at me with a face that's just not sure why he is peeing in a cup Mommy is holding. Braden came in with us, Chris stayed back to pick up my purse and the papers I threw on the floor. I had to hurry, if he peed his pants we would have had to wait FOREVER for him to pee again and I wasn't interested in spending the day at the hospital! Chris had called yesterday and they wouldn't let us bring in his pee. So anyway, he kept on going until the cup overflowed in my hand. Once it's turned on there is no turning it off! So they got a great size sample from Ian today. He was so proud of himself. Until Thursday morning, Ian is done.

After our hospital excursion we ate and then went over to Dr. Malotte's office for Braden's consultation. It was nice seeing Dr. Malotte again. I told him who I was, that he'd done my cancer surgeries almost 10 years ago. He didn't remember who I was. Which I expected- he sees so many people, I can't imagine how many in 10 years, but it was still strange. He was/is such an important person to me. He performed two surgeries on me that saved my life and allowed me to get to be a Mommy and a wife and have the life I have today. He checked out my scar and said it looked good and congratulated me and was happy I'm healthy. He took it as a compliment that I brought my child to him. Anyway, it was a trip down memory lane to say the least.

O.k. so back to Braden! Dr. Malotte wants us to video tape his 'worst' snoring. He said that if his large tonsils are clearly effecting his sleep, then he will take them out. If not, they can stay. He said that 1 or 2 out of every 100 kids who have their tonsils taken out have complications. So there is still risk and he wants to make sure it's 100% necessary. We go back in about 6 weeks with the video of him snoring. I think we're just going to set the video camera up and record him all night and I'll just play it on a high volume one day when I'm doing laundry and cleaning house. If I hear loud snoring I can check it and write down the number of where the tape is?? He doesn't snore all of the time, so it'll be hard to catch.

As we were leaving the office Braden was so upset he wasn't having his tonsils out today. He started to cry. We had told him earlier in the day that he might be having his tonsils taken out. We explained everything about the surgery- except that it would be happening on a different day! He was so funny. In the car he said, "I hate my tonsils!" I asked him why and he said, "I want them out and they are not coming out and I want ice cream". Of course we had told him he gets all of the ice cream and Jello he wants after his tonsils come out. So before we went home we stopped off at Foster's Freeze and sat on the benches and had ice cream cones. Braden finished his and helped me with mine. Ian dropped his half way through. Chris went in and they gave him another one. He looked so big eating his ice cream cone. He's 2, still so young, and  I wonder where my baby went.....

O.k.! So before I start to cry, I'm going to end this. ha ha ha

So as to not leave Ally out, she brought home a great progress report today. Her teacher doesn't need us to come in for a conference, she is doing great. Now if the dentist says the same about her teeth and not needing braces for her tooth- we are in great shape!

Thank you everyone for your support. And for reading the book I just wrote.
