More Corn

It's 64 now and foggy, heading for 77 today and a nice South breeze. It got to 71 yesterday and I never closed up. That was a real treat, open windows and boiling corn all afternoon. There is a lot of fog, but not tight to the ground, so you can see where your driving.

My garden is 20 feet x 200 feet and all the rows are 20 feet long. Have lots of piped water along the side, so watering is no problem. Lots of stuff all summer and do replant some stuff for fall picking as well.

I did 184 ears of corn yesterday and should have about 150 today. The patch I'm picking is 11 rows and I got through 6 of them yesterday, so 5 rows left for today. I hustled till 3 pm getting them all picked, shucked, cleaned and blanched. I put into the frig in big plastic tubs for the cutters to work on today. My other patch will be ready to pick in 2 weeks when mom is home. We'll cream that batch. Another 11 rows in that patch.

Craig and Tammy will get here along 11 am or noon. They are cutters on the corn project. They went to Sydney, NE yesterday for a wedding reception and spent the night there. By the time they get here, I should be starting to blanch the second batch. Sacking the stuff goes right along. Sydney is a 3 hour drive West on the interstate and in the mountain time zone, so a poor way to drive to make time.

I have pork chops out to fix this evening for the three of us. Fresh corn on the cob, spuds from the garden and I see a couple big red tomatoes hanging, so will grab them as well. That ought to make a meal.

Its no surprise, Candy is in Denver this week working and the corn is ready. I think the corn gods planned it that way. Or at least she planned it that way?

Better eat breakfast and get picking.
