Hello All,
My surgery went well yesterday -- I survived. Actually the surgery was
longer than expected as the surgeon told Carol that I had the worst
case
of Achalisa that he has seen. He told her that the opening into my
stomach was smaller than 1/4 and was filling in with scar tissue as the
food I ate would tear at the opening wall. In the end I was back to
my
room by early afternoon but do not remember very much until evening
when
the anaesthetic finally wore off.
To my great surprise I was not in much pain at all as long as I did not
move. I have 5 small incisions on my stomach ; the largest being about
2
inches long. The others are about an inch to one and a half inches
long.
I have two additional incisions internally at the bottom of the
Esophagus
and another inside the stomach itself. The surgeon said these are not
big either maybe 2 or so each.
I have no stitches or staples externally which was also a surprise. I
am
put back together with a glue of some kind that is better than stitches
as it finally just goes away as the wound heals. The surgeon says that
I
do not need to be extra careful of these glued areas as they are water
proof and very elastic. (common sense prevails here I am sure). So
after a somewhat fitful night and morning I got to come home. My blood
chemistries are excellent, no infection apparent, no need to worry
about
bleeding and no fever. I am just "Sore as all get out".
I have an appointment on Thursday with the surgeon to look at
everything.
He said he does not expect any problems as my state of health is so
good. He said he was surprised that I was able to tolerate the pain
from
the exiting condition or that I actually got anything into my stomach.
I
honestly had very little pain at all but I did throw up so much that my
muscles have become very sore. So now I have 2 - 3 weeks of liquid
diet
and 3 weeks of soft food then I can eat anything that I can tolerate.
What joy -- liquids again............
I am sorry if this e-mail does not make too much sense as I am in such
a
state that am not thinking very clearly coupled with my typing very
slowly and my fingers miss the keys to boot.
Love to all, Frank B. |
