Northwest Report

The past few weeks have been busy with regular projects including website updates, Flat Stanley adventures, and music archiving. The new work schedule is now underway. Cheryl has had several eye and dental appointments and we even got to have dinner with friends from work.

I continue to make mp3's out of the record albums. It's kinda fun to listen to records you haven't heard in twenty years. I'm on the last box full now, so that part will be done soon. Then it will be the cassette tapes.

As I settle in to the new work shift, I'm finding the traffic is a lot easier. On the weekday schedule I actually start driving the bus at 6:30pm, just after the rush hour so that is good. While I get paid for a full eight hours I actually work only seven and three-quarters, so there's a little benefit there too. My weekend work is almost the same as before so no big changes there, but the loss of the overtime sure hasn't helped.

Cheryl has been busy with getting new glasses. That takes several trips to the eye doctor. She is getting new lenses for both a regular pair and a pair for computer use. She has also been to the dentist a few times as the need for a root canal on a front tooth has been discovered. We have a great dentist, and he is trying to do the work without having to put a crown on the tooth. But, the work is slow as he is being very careful.

Late in January we took some time out to have dinner with a bus driver friend Miguel Manzueta and his wife, Josefina. They are from the Dominican Republic and wanted to make some native foods for us. A very congenial couple, they served both beef and fish dishes with rice and beans. They even had chips and a special salsa. It was all delicious.

Another friend I drive with, Gary Powers, is a musician and invited me to see his music studio in his home. He lives on the North side of Seattle so the drive was about an hour. He has a large room setup with drums, guitars, keyboards, a mixer and a Mac computer for processing. Gary has a great voice and has produced several songs. Click here to hear his latest work, Cold New York Night. The lead guitar was done by another bus driver, Mike Wilson. Gary and I are looking at a possible music video project.

The last couple of days we have had very Spring like weather. A good fooler for the flowers and trees. They will start to blossom and the next few weeks will turn colder and may even snow. Winter is not over yet!
