Graduation Trip

By Cheryl & John Schmit

Last weekend we went to Florida to see Heidi graduate from St. Leo University. We had a great time during the three days we were there. It was nice to be with Heidi as she took us to all the important places and introduced us to her friends.

We traveled on Thursday. We left home about 5am and arrived at the hotel around 7pm. Friday Heidi showed us around town and took us onto Mac Dill Air Force base where she worked. She showed us the building her classes were in and took us to the library. We saw the beach on base and spent some time shopping at the BX.

Saturday we picked up Heidi early and went to the hall where the graduation ceremony would be. Cheryl took pictures of Heidi on the beautiful grounds and as she was putting on her cap and gown. I stayed in the auditorium and held down the front row seat so I could get the video I wanted.

The graduation ceremony was geared toward those in the military, fire, and police services. While everyone was in a very joyous mood of celebration, there still was the solemn and reverent aspect to the ceremony. Heidi looked great as she walked across the stage and received her diploma. The school had photographers there to take professional pictures of all the graduates.

Sunday we all went out sightseeing. We had lunch at the Olive Garden and was served by Jennifer, one of Heidi's close friends. We got to see the botanical gardens where Heidi was married and drove over many of the bridges that spanned the bay. We had the opportunity to visit, relax, and enjoy catching up.

Our trip home started out with confusion about separate seats but ended with us in very comfortable seats together right near the door. The flights were a bit bumpy due to the weather but we were very happy and enjoyed the time. We got in to Seattle about midnight and after the shuttle ride home, gladly hit the bed about 1:30am. What a great vacation!
