AARP Meeting

What an AARP meeting we had Tue. evening...... First of all, I was nominated by three people to a State honor for a special award given each year to someone in the community that does a lot of volunteering. I don't have any idea how many people compete for this state-wide AARP award but, to my knowledge, no one in Franklin County (where I live) has ever won.

Then I asked permission to speak and I talked about the necessity of starting some kind of chain to call senior citizens that live alone just to say "Hi, how are you today and do you need anything". Some of these seniors sit alone day after day with no one and need a word from someone that shows they care. My thought is if we can do anything to help the housebound, we are going to be blessed. That was unanimously carried and almost everyone in the meeting thought this was the best idea they had ever heard. I had volunteers that want to help get this started so we are going to have a meeting to discuss what needs to be done. Do any of you have any input on how we can make this project work or are you aware of other cities doing the same thing? If so, I would love to hear from you.
