Blackberries

I'm just a farm girl at heart. I have tomatoes in containers over on the side of the house, I have honeyberries up in the corner of the yard and today I planted two black berry plants. Honeyberries are similar to blueberries but the tolerate the shade better and produce a long fruit rather than a round one. The plants bloomed very well this spring and berries set on. Unfortunately, we got a hard freeze and it took them all.

Next year I will be more vigilant and if the good weather man says it's gonna freeze tonight, I will cover my little plants with blankets!! As for sun and the black berries, earlier this year we cut down one of the smaller oak trees out back and that has opened up a bunch of sunlight to my miserable garden. These are thornless berry plants. Hopefully next spring we will be able to harvest some.
