July 14, I joined the Patrick Henry Hays Senior Citizen Center here in North Little Rock. It is a brand new place, very nice, and close, only about 4 1/2 miles from me. It's been open since '05 I think, I'm not sure. I thought you had to be 62 at least to join, come to find out you only had to be 50!! I said well, shoot, I'm nearly 60 so I guess I can join and did. Cost a whole $25.00 for a 1 year membership!! They have a huge amount of activities daily, trips, luncheons, classes. I joined for the water aerobic class and it's great fun. Thursday there is a quilting 'class' from 8 AM - 12 PM. It isn't really a class, it's more of a stitching group. There are about 12 gals in the group. They have made some group projects and are gearing up for a quilt show at the center in September. I'll be taking pictures to send so you can enjoy the quilts too.

Today I went for stitch group and also for the Caribbean Luncheon. Oh man, it was so good. Lunch was Caribbean Grilled Chicken Salad, Garlic Bread and Lemonade Pie. Cost of the ticket was $5.00. They served ice tea and water also. After lunch 4 groups performed. Two of the groups were Line Dancers, one group was ball room dance and the 4th group did Jail House Rock, dressed up of course as 'jail birds' It was great!!

Tomorrow I'm going with a group of people to Hope Arkansas to the Watermelon Festival. It's held every year, I've always wanted to go and I finally get to go!! I told Bill, we are having watermelon for dinner tomorrow night. Lunch will be at Western Sizzlin. We buy our own lunch and there is a $3.00 fee for the trip.

I'm so glad I joined this center. They have a total of 15,000 members and on any given day they have anywhere from 750 or more in people participation! My family and friends have been telling me for a very long time that I need to get out of the house more. Now I am and boy am I having fun!! I go to water aerobics, take trips, have lunches, make new friends and flat out enjoy things!!
