From the Sea to the Mountains

Today was another busy day of sightseeing. We went to the northwest side of Seattle to the Ballard area and later to the east of Seattle to Snoqualmie Falls.

We went looking for the Troll under the Ballard bridge but I couldn't remember which bridge it was under. We drove from the University District along the lake and channels and finally found it. Artie climbed up on top of his head and then came down and posed at the base with Heidi. The VW car that's incorporated into the cement looked like it could have used a good cleaning. We continued driving from there past the 'Center of the Universe' sign, the statue of Lenin, through down town Ballard, and then over to the Locks.

We were at the Locks for about an hour. We had time to check out the visitor center, watch some boats go through the locks, and observe some fish going through the fish ladder. This time of year they migrate from the salty Pacific Ocean through Puget Sound to the fresh water lakes and then on up into the rivers. There was one salmon we saw going through the fish ladder that was big, probably about two feet long. There were also some smaller ones that seemed to be swimming circles around the big one. To the west of the Locks is a train draw bridge. While we were there they lowered it for a freight train to go on up the coast.

We were then off from the sea to the mountains. We hit some work traffic on the freeways but it wasn't too bad. We drove up to Snoqualmie to see the falls. It's been such a dry summer I wasn't sure if there would be much water. It had rained some yesterday so figured today would be a better day to go there than later in the week; it's suppose to warm up again. While we were in the Snoqualmie area we stopped by the old train station. The museum had already closed for the day so we just looked around a bit.

It was a little overcast today but we didn't need jackets and we didn't get in any rain. It was great weather for driving around. We drove home the back way through the lush green mountains and arrived home tired and content. Had a great day!
