What a great time Candy and I had on our OR and WA vacation. We flew to Medford, OR from Denver on Thursday, the 17th and stayed with a long time friend of ours that we knew from my VA days in Medford from 1978 to 1987.

My cousin Roland from Reno flew up on the 18th and stayed with Candy and I in our friends 2nd house she had in Medford. Roland and I fished for salmon in the Rogue River on Sat. and Sun. Gettin' up at 4am to fish till past noon. Roland caught a 25# fish and I caught a 3# fish. Ate out one night at a fancy restaurant and all 4 had a great meal. Candy and Marsha spent the 2 days hitting every shop in town - or at least they tried. Roland flew home on Sunday afternoon after fishing and we left Monday morn early.

Marsha took Candy and I over to Klammath Falls, OR on Monday morning and we caught the Coast Starlight Amtrak train that goes from LA to Seattle. We rode it to Portland up and over the Cascade Mtns on our way. Got into to Porland at 3:30pm and left another Amrak train that goes from Portland to Chicago. We rode that train from Portland at 4:45pm to Spokane WA, getting there at midnight. What a ride ! For 200 miles, the train went with in feet of the Columbia River on the WA side.

Our friends in Spokane were old Medford friend and then lived in SE Colorado when we lived in Lakewood CO. We stayed 2 nights and caught up on all the missed time. We hear from them regularly back and forth, but a personal visit is tops.

Then yesterday Candy and flew out of Spokane to Denver and our great 8 day trip was over. Lots of smiles left and great to see both Roland and Carrole who both have beat a cancer scare so far. We pray it stays that way for years to come.

Roland was my fishing partner when I lived in Medford and would drive up 2 -3 times each year to fish with me. What a great joy to have him join me again in the boat.
