Concert

I went "high brow" tonight. One of my friends (Libby) invited me to go with two other women (besides Libby & me) tonight to Chamber Music at our local Mount Vernon Music Hall - they had an extra ticket that was paid for so they invited me. The gentlemen that introduced the players said that we are one of no more than ten cities our size in the U.S. that has a venue for "good music".

In the first part of the program, there were two violins and one viola. One of the gentleman was Chinese and played a 300 year old (in Oct.) Stradivari violin and he was excellent. In the second part of the program they added a cello and a clarinet, which added to the music. This isn't my type of music but for something different to do and to see how they converted an empty church to a music hall was nice for an evening out. They could have made no end of "goofs" in their music and Libby and I said we wouldn't have known because we'd never heard of the music they were playing. There were probably 75 people (more or less) but I couldn't count the people behind me so had to guess. All of the people playing are of a high well-known caliber, have played all over the world and came from Dallas tonight. I would say that most of the audience knew classical music because they wouldn't quit clapping and Libby and I were ready to leave - Libby drove. All four of us are "older" ladies and two a little older than me.

It was a lovely evening to be out and glad it wasn't raining as it was supposed to be.
