Memorial Weekend

We had a really good time this Memorial Day weekend. Having the kids over was great and having Mom here made it better. It really was a family day.

Artie and Heidi arrived on Sunday in the early afternoon, just after Mom. The food was hauled out. Beginning with a big vegetable plate, there were snacks and munchies available all afternoon.

Before we sat down to eat, we needed to get the work out of the way, so everyone gathered in the front yard. There we pulled out the support stakes that held the three trees we planted a little over two years ago. After that long in the ground, the ends of the stakes were rotten, so they broke off easily.

Heidi and Artie also opened their first baby gifts. We had met Joan and Art Cardona in Arizona and they gave us a special package to take to the kids. We finally had the chance to give it to them and they opened it to discover a nice moving musical baby seat. There were also several cute baby items.

Cheryl and Heidi ran the Bar-B-Q and made hamburgers and Italian sausages. Mmm good! Along with a pasta salad and potato salad there was way too much to eat. For desert Cheryl had made frosted graham crackers and fresh berries.

Allen arrived immediately after work and finished off a good portion. We all jabbered and talked up a storm for several hours.

Artie and Heidi spent the night and on Monday went with us down to Mom's where we worked on a few finishing details at her new apartment. Her new place is really beginning to feel like home.

To top off the weekend, we discovered the birds have built another nest in our hanging flowers. We setup a web cam and also began saving images to share. There are four eggs in the nest and we are excited!
