Spokane Trip

July 18 & 19, 2010
By Cheryl & John Schmit

We just had a great, two day, trip to visit L!sa, Russ, Andrew, Chandler, and Lex! in Spokane. We had been planning to go there for some time and with L!sa there now, what a good excuse to go. With Barbara along we could make it a real family event. And such a time it was.

Leaving the clouds of the Seattle area behind, we crossed over Snoqualmie pass and headed east. After crossing the Columbia River, we stopped at the Wild Horse Canyon view point to stretch our legs and take in the fantastic view. The statues of horses on the cliff look so realistic. The river gorge is quite a sight from high on the cliff.

We were surprised to see the large expanses of open area. It was good to see the active farms all along the center of the state. Freshly plowed field had dust devils dancing across them. The crop circles of potatoes, corn and wheat, had giant sprinklers working their way around them.

The kids took us to see Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane. What a lovely place to relax. The giant wagon is a favorite of the kids. The Spokane River runs through the park and has several waterfalls to view. A highlight of the park was the carousel. We all had to try that (except Cheryl who took pictures).

Our second day L!sa and Lex! joined us as we drove across the state line to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Clearly a Northwest jewel, the area has many pretty lakes surrounded by towering pine trees. We took some time to see the downtown area as well as a visit to the local airport.

It was all too soon that we had to drop the kids off and wind our way back home. Again we marveled at the open space and had lunch in Moses Lake. A little refreshment and we were on our way. After six hours on the road it was good to get home. With 295 pictures taken over the two days, it's hard to choose just the right ones. Enjoy the pictures.
