X3985

This morning Candy and I went down to our UP RR crossing, 5 miles South of our house. It is a triple main line that handles 240 trains each day. I knew the X3985 was coming thru from Denver, Cheyenne, North Platte, Kearney and heading for Kansas City and St Louis. She went flying by at 70 mph barely working with such a light train. We caught up with it in Kearney, 10 miles further East. It made a planned stop there to get all greased up.

As it flew by, I had to look twice to be sure it wasn't my brother Jack at the trottle. It wasn't, but I had wished it was. For dead sure, he wished he been at the trottle. This train will be heading home to Cheyenne WY in 10 days. I'll be there again to watch.

The UP has 2 steam engines in service. This 4-6-6-4 is the much bigger of the 2. The other one, a 4-8-4 will come by the first part of Nov heading to Omaha. It will come back thru Kearney 4 days later. Guess where I'll be ?
