RSVP Brunch

October 20, 2010

I was downstairs by 7:40 this morning, waiting for Helena (from the Senior Center) to pick up Terri and me. We went back to the Senior Center and then 9 of us rode together in the Senior Center van to Emerald Downs Horse Race Track (most people car-pooled) for our RSVP Brunch and Awards for King County volunteers.

RSVP is a very large volunteer group that is in every state. Washinton has over 12,000 volunteers (we have 300 volunteers in our Kent Senior Center alone). They had all kinds of vendors (for services, etc.) there that we checked out before "breakfast" that was supposed to start by 9:30 but it was close to 10 before we got in line for our food (we were sitting almost to the other end of the room).

The food was prepared by the Emerald Downs staff which included a beautiful fruit bowl we could dish from, rolls and muffins of all kinds, scrambled eggs and ham slices. There were tables set up that had coffee, water for tea and orange juice in different places around the room. Everyone could help themselves from the time we got there which started at 8:30.

There was a huge group of men that were Barbershop singers who performed while we ate and were very good. There was a gal speaker that had a good talk about aging and the things that age us faster. There were right at 500 people in this huge room. The many tables and chairs were set up with real silverware and cloth napkins. This was on the top floor (5th) of the race track main building (a gorgeous race track that is reasonably new and is about 3 miles from me).

We left there about 11:20, went back to the Senior Center and then Helena brought me back home in her car. Terri stayed at the Senior Center to do her exercising. A very nice beautiful and cool morning for something different to do.
