Christmas Lights Tour

December 6, 2010

It was the perfect night (Sunday) for a ride. Cheryl and I had to go to downtown Seattle anyway, so why not take Mom and check out the Christmas lights there. Of course we didn't know about the Seahawks game getting over just as we arrived.

Macy's always has good stuff and the giant star lit up Fourth Avenue and the Westlake Park. The park was set up for the colorful holiday carousel. We drove slowly to take in all the decorations. Macy's also had a great train setup in a huge corner window. It even has an operating cable car.

We continued through the downtown area to the Seattle Center. There we saw snowmen made out of lights as part of the Winterfest 2010 display. We made our way back to downtown and drove up Pike Street to the Capitol Hill area. This area and the neighborhoods around it had some interesting sights and displays. We went down the hill to the University of Washington area to show Mom Husky Stadium and the Medical Center there.

A quick ride east on the 520 floating bridge took us to Bellevue. While on the water we got a great view of Bill Gates' home as it was fully lit up. Once in Bellevue we drove down Snowflake Lane (at the Bellevue Square) and over to the Bellevue Ice Skating Arena. The area was full of Christmas lights and music.

We left Bellevue to cross the I-90 floating bridge going back into Seattle. The shoreline lights were very nice. A special surprise was a chance to see some of the Christmas Ships sailing north along the western shore of Lake Washington. An awesome view as we completed our Christmas light tour.
