Visitors From Sweden

In 1991 Candy and I hosted a young man, Martin, from Sweden for 11 months. He was a world class skier, who lost the last cut to represent Sweden in the 92 Winter Olympics in two down hill events. So he came to us and we had a great year. He ate us out of house and home - and probably more!

He has come back to see us 2x more and Candy and I made a trip that way in 1997. Our 2 kids got there 2x each more than the trip we all had in 97. This past Sat, 6/25, he and his girlfriend Ylva (ill-va) came to see us for 5 days. Candy and I picked them up at the Lincoln NE airport at 10am. They came from Montreal where they were visiting Martin's brother for 2 weeks. Lincoln is a 2 hr drive for us.

Mugsy and her crew got to our house at 4pm (we'd got home at 1pm) and Craig and his crew came on over after work at 6pm - they live only 7 miles from us. It was a non stop party for 5 days. Candy spoiled Martin with everything he use to inhale - chocolate chip cookies, Kolaches, salmon, Mexican food and plenty more. I tried not to gain 100# in 5 days!

We made a 40 mile trip to Pioneer Village in Minden NE. An excellent museum of old stuff that help shape NE. Many buildings to walk through and see old stuff in first class shape. All liked that outing. We had a great bon fire over at my pond one late evening that lasted to 1am. Nonstop talk and plenty of beer and goodies. Candy and I split the babysitting duties, as all 4 little ones slept.

Our dishwasher got a first class workout. 8 adults and 4 little ones, from 29 months to 5 1/2 yrs old. It got ran full after every meal, 3x a day.

Mugsy and crew left yesterday afternoon and Craig and crew left at 3pm, as Craig worked at 4pm. A quite meal last night of another favorite - Chicken and dumplings and then a quite visit for Candy and I with Martin and Ylva. Several old stories and lots of talk about our own families. Off to bed by 10pm, as the alarm rang at 4am this morn for them to catch a 6:30am flight from Kearney to Denver - then to Newark, NJ and then off to Stockholm.

It's quite around here today. Candy headed to Denver this morning to work a week - so it's me and the 2 cats. I worked outside today till 2pm and then had inside jobs. The heat spiked up to 98 today and so enough of the outside work by 2pm.

Now just great memories till we see them again. Hope a wedding is soon - Candy and I will go to Sweden for that.
