Boehm Chocolate Factory

We had a trip today in our van. There had to be ten people who to go on the tour and with our driver, that's how many we had. Kay and I were the only two from our building that went. We were off to the Boehm Chocolate Factory in "Issaquah Alps", an area 25 miles north of here and not far from Snoqualmie Casino. It had been pouring here before we left but by the time we got up close to there, the sun was shining and the sky was blue - a GORGEOUS day to be in "the Alps".

The candies Boehm make are European-style, hand-dipped chocolate truffles to their classic, chewy caramels and nut clusters. The original owner was born in Austria in 1897 and died here in 1981. He went to Switzerland when Hitler moved into Germany and in the course of his moving around to many places, he moved to our area because it was the best replica of Austria he could find. He has one daughter but she wasn't ever interested in the candy business so the company was sold out after his death to some conglomerate - don't know who.

These are really quality candies and to watch them be made is just outstanding - all hand done and they specialize in dark chocolate. This factory has been in the same place for the last 58 years. We were told that after Mr. Boehm's death, NOTHING has been changed in the way they make their candy - per his request in his will. We were offered many samples, which none of us turned down regardless of the ones with Diabetes.

Once we got back here, we came in to get our mail and noticed that Arlene had sandwiches and chips in the rec room for anyone who wanted them so I didn't have to come home and make lunch.
