Day out With Thomas

April 15-17, 2016

This weekend was a great surprise for Michael. We took him to go see Thomas the Tank Engine in Calera, Alabama. We started our trip on Friday April 15th, on the way to Calera we stopped by the Talladega Super Speedway where we not only went through the museum but we took a tour of the race track. We got to go on the racetrack and see what it was actually like to go "racing". It gave a whole new perspective on what it must be like in the race cars. Also watching it on tv doesn't do the race track justice either. Michael and Artie had a grand time checking out the cars as well.

We got to Calera early evening so we went to Olive Garden and just relaxed as much as we could in the hotel room. The next morning we headed to the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum where Thomas the Tank Engine was stationed. This is where we surprised Michael. He was so excited he couldn't wait to get down from the truck and go to Thomas. That was the first thing we did when we got through the gates, we took a picture with Thomas. We then headed over to the imagination tent where he and other children played with all the toy trains and got "tattoos". Michael got a Percy tattoo. We then headed over to get a picture and give Sir Topham Hatt a high five. Soon after it was time to ride Thomas. We got on board the train where the conductor asked him to be his Junior Engineer. The train ride was about a half hour long, enough that it put Rachel to sleep.

After the train ride we headed over to the souvenir shop. Michael was pretty excited to go in there. He wanted everything in there! When all was said and done we spent about three hours at the museum. When we got back to the hotel room everyone took a nap due to all the excitement. We drove back home on Sunday just in time to get ready for school and work.
