I was downstairs by 7:40 this morning, waiting for Helena (from the Senior Center) to pick up Terri and me. X3985 Again 10/13/10
By Cliff Chamberlin
This morning Candy and I went to Gibbon Jct about 20 miles E of my house to see this steam engine again. This is where the UP scheduled to stop her and give her a big grease job. They do this every 2-3 hrs of running time. She was Westbound, heading home to Cheyenne WY. We saw her 2 wks ago on her way to St Louis.
Sure is a thrill to watch an old (1943) pile of iron and oil go by. I held my cell phone up with Jack on the other end. He said he just about thought, with all the hissing and groaning, he was there in the cab.
Next month the X844 will come by and I'll be there again.

Chasing A Steam Engine 10/01/10
By Cliff Chamberlin
This morning Candy and I went down to our UP RR crossing 5 miles South of our house. It is a triple main line that handles 240 trains each day. I knew the X3985 was coming thru from Denver, Cheyenne, North Platte, Kearney and heading for Kansas City and St Louis. She went flying by at 70 mph barely working with such a light train.
