Fall Las Vegas Visit 11/12-16/13
By John & Cheryl Schmit
Our fall vacation took us to Las Vegas to visit Mom. Our plan was to do a quick sightseeing the day of arrival, then spend the rest of the week with Mom. That worked well for the first day and a half. Then John got sick and ended up with an emergency appendectomy. Plans changed. Now Mom got to visit John in the hospital. After discharge we had a day left and enjoyed recovery time.

10,000 Views 06/27/13
By John Schmit
Congratulations to Artie Cardona and Cheryl Schmit. The video they made a little over a year ago has surpassed 10,000 views. Artie came over to cut out the stump of the Birch tree that had fallen in the ice storm of January 2012. Cheryl picked up the video camera and recorded his work. There is even a cameo appearance by Heidi. When I came home from work and saw the video I couldn't stop laughing. I edited it quick and posted it on YouTube. If you haven't enjoyed this 10 minute video recently, click the link below.

Tree Trimming 06/25/13
By John & Cheryl Schmit
The tree trimmers were out to our house yesterday. We had five trees trimmed and thinned out. All the trees are Flowering Pear trees. The two trees in the back have been moved several times, but now seem good where they are. The tree trimming with these trees will need to be done every two or three years.

Ferry Hopping 06/24/13
By John & Cheryl Schmit
We did some ferry hopping on Sunday, June 9th. The day started out cloudy, but cleared nicely! We drove down to Tacoma where we took the ferry from Pt. Defiance to Tahlequah on Vashon Island. Then we drove to the northern end of the island where we caught the ferry to Southworth. We had an hour wait there but it was very pretty and fun to watch the numerous ferries going between Vashon and Fauntleroy (southwest of Seattle). From Southworth we drove through Port Orchard to Bremerton for the ferry back to Seattle. On this one we got an excellent parking spot so stayed in the car for the one hour ride and enjoyed to views. We all had a great day in the sunshine and fresh air.

New Pictures 06/03/13
By Susie Devries
Here is a picture of Autumn taken a couple weeks ago. She passed with mostly B's on her report card and is going to be a 2nd Grader in the fall. Also here are some pictures of the current quilt I am working on. It is called a 4 patch posy. Believe it or not, all the blocks on this particular quilt are out of the same piece of fabric. Pretty neat huh. All in all I have 72 blocks and am now putting sashing on them. Next week will be sashing and cornerstones. I don't have a clue what to do, but my good friend Jo, is going to show me, step by step. I hope it works out. Will send more pics later.

See The Tulips 04/21/13
By Cheryl Schmit
It was a rainy start but the skies cleared as we headed north. The trees are leafing out and the bright new green leaves mixed with the dark evergreen trees was very nice to see. Spring is here.
We were a little late getting up to Skagit Valley to see the tulips, but we found a few fields still in full bloom. What a pretty sight, the colors are so vivid.

Desert Heat Means Flowers 04/21/13
By Frank
The Summer heat is beginning to arrive here in Palm Springs as one would expect this time of year. It is in the low 90's everyday but very nice in the evenings and night time. That will soon change to just plain HOT however and the swiming pool will then be the center of attention.

The Angel 04/02/13
By Frank
Living our here in the desert, in Palm Springs, has some things that are extremely interesting to a few of us and maybe to you also. When we travel we usually think of the Interstate Hwy system or dedicated road ways but here we here have the rare ability to see a very different idea in practice that was used in the 1880's onward. People were moving from the mid-west to all parts of the new country available including Southern California.

Sending One Your Way 03/21/13
By Cheryl Schmit
We are checking out a really nice mass of cold wet air right now. Snoqualmie Pass has been closed and the snow level, well, it's in our yard! This is the first real snow we've seen here this season. Now this looks like it's brewing up to be a dandy little storm as it visits you in the midwest and east. Just letting you know, we checked it out and it meets our quality standards. Enjoy!

WWII Airplanes In The Desert 03/21/13
By Frank
A few days ago Palm Springs had a visit from the only certified flying B-29 Super Fortress remaining in the world and one of two crews certified to fly her. The B-29 was built by Boeing in Seattle when a need to have a heavy duty bomber became very apparent to the Army Air Force during WW II. An airplane like this one delivered the two atomic bombs that we dropped on Japan effectively ending the war then and there.

Michael and Arizona 03/20/13
By Heidi Cardona
This was Michael first trip to Arizona to see his grandparents. The plane ride down to Arizona was great; Michael slept most of the way. Even a few passengers said he was a well behaved little boy. We got to the house by early Saturday evening, just in time for dinner. Sunday morning Michael and daddy went to church with the family and the Priest even blessed Michael.

The second store knew about the first stores failure and made sure his empoyees knew what to do and he only recieved a 76%...also a failure. 85% is the minimum to pass.

Casino 02/19/13
By Barbara Lawrence
If we could have ordered a more perfect weather day than we had today, I doubt it could have been possible. When we left here at 8:30 this morning to go on the Snoqualmie Coach bus to the casino (it holds 56 people), it was cloudy. The driver came right out here to our driveway and picked 16 of us up from these three buildings. We made three other stops on the way to the casino and I'm sure the bus was full by the time we got up there - we arrived a little before 10 a.m. As we turned onto 405 and headed up towards I-90, the sky was perfectly gorgeous - totally clear.

Fun With Michael 02/11/13
By John & Cheryl Schmit
We had a wonderful time this weekend visiting Heidi, Artie, and baby Michael. The drive both ways was dramatic. The weather in the Pasco, Washington area was good and our overnight stay was fun. Michael seemed comfortable with us and we had a good time. Michael saw his first rocket launch with Heidi and John. On the way home we tried a different way, going north through the Yakima Canyon. It was great and we'll do that again. Enjoy all the pictures.

50th Anniversary Cruise 01/31/13
By Frank
Carol and I went on a 50th Wedding Anniversary cruise a few weeks ago to Hawaii. We were on the ship 16 days r/t and loved it. The cruise went to three of the islands so we had plenty to time to visit on each. I looked like the Japanese tourist of old with my camera slung around my neck constantly. During the trip I took hundreds of photos of nearly everything. I have included a few pictures that kind of show you the area and waters around the islands. It is very beautiful there still but getting too populated since Carol and I lived in the islands for a few years off and on. Our Anniversary was wonderful and this trip was the topping on the celebration cake.

Society of Seven Concert 01/26/13
By Barbara Lawrence
The music we heard this afternoon at Muckleshoot Casino from the "Society of Seven" is some of the best music I've ever heard. The two younger people of this group is a gal and a young man that both have voices that give a person goose bumps when they sing (probably in their mid 20's).

Concert 01/12/13
By Barbara Lawrence
We had so much fun today as there were four of us that went to an Elvis impersonator concert at Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn. We were told that we couldn't take four walkers on the same Access bus so Linda's and my bus came at 9:45 and we got to the casino at 10:25 - two other people on the bus had to be taken home before we could go to the casino. We started standing in line by 10:40 (for a 1 p.m. show) - one woman beat us there - and by the time it was ready for us to go in, the line stretched all the way around the casino. Darlene and Barbara Moore arrived about 1/2 hr. after we got there. It is so much fun standing in line because it's a way to talk to so many different people.

Mid-Winter Ride 01/06/13
By Barbara Lawrence
Oh my gosh, what a fun day we had this last Sunday. Cheryl & John picked me up at 9 a.m. and we didn't get home until 6 p.m. When we left here, we drove north to Marysville and went to the Seattle Premium Outlet stores where Cheryl went to Chico's and I went to Naturalizer Shoes - both stores had big sales going on. After trying on a number of pair of shoes, I found a great bargain on a nice pair of dress shoes that had been $100 and were marked down to $50. I really like them. Cheryl also bought some things at Chico's. When we left there we drove north to an area south of Mt. Vernon, hoping to see thousands of the white geese but to our dismay, there were very few of them. We drove up and down a number of roads and saw a few more from time to time but they were too far away to get good pictures of them.
