Double Adoption 12/21/05 By John & Cheryl Schmit
For the past several months, at the request of Heidi and Allen, we have been exploring the adoption process. Having Heidi home for Christmas allowed everyone to be present at the same time. Papers were signed at the attorney's Tuesday afternoon for presentation in court. This morning we finalized the adoption of Heidi by Cheryl and Allen by John. Both Cheryl and I are honored by this display of love!
Enjoy these pictures from the adoption.
Dateline Pembine 12/15/05 By Roger Schmit
On Saturday, December 10th, Grace Lutheran Church held their first annual cookie walk. I guess first annual means that they plan to do it again next year. It was a big success with many varieties of cookies to choose from. You would buy a box for $4 or $7 dollars and then walk around the table making your selections while the
"Men Of Grace" filled your boxes. All the cookies were sold within 2 1/2 hours. Next year I will fill my boxes before the door open. The event was a fund raiser for the building committee. Pictures are posted in the usual place.

Going Home Soon !!!! 12/12/05 By Frank Bingham
Finally, the day has almost arrived where I return home from this
consulting job. I will leave Texas on Thursday to go back to the
warmth
of Palm Springs. It has become quite cool down here in Lufkin with a
good deal of frost and thin ice every morning. I walk in the mornings
early so it has been slow as I need to watch where I am stepping all
the
time.

Putting Up The Tree 12/11/05 By Susie Devries
Today we put up our tree. It's the artificial one that Bill has had for 30 years I suppose. He bought it at a garage sale when he was married to his first wife. The tree is up and when my kids and family come over on Friday they will get to decorate it. We have the lights on the tree now, and that by itself is pretty.
We got a really neat gadget at Lowe's. It's a little brass Christmas tree shaped thing, called Christmas Tree Lights Touch Control. You plug the main part into the outlet, plug in your lights into the outlet at the bottom of the plug. Then there is a wire that you attach to that, and it attaches to a little brass tree. there are 5 settings, 7%, 30%, 70%, 100% and off. No more trying to get to the plug to turn off the lights on the tree for the night. Some how in our house we always seem to have the tree in front of the outlet and of course once all the presents are under the tree, it's next to impossible to get to the outlet. This allows us to turn the lights on with just a touch, and we can have them 100% or as low as 7%. I think the thing cost like 10.00, and to me that is well worth it. The little brass tree looks like an ornament and blends in with everything.
That's about it from here. No snow, a little cool but not even close to heavy coat time. Today it was 55 and I was in and out all day in just my T shirt and slacks. I was not even wearing shoes! Of course, I tend to not wear shoes when ever possible!! Talk to you all later. Hope you got the pictures this time and can possibly put them on the web site.
Love ya,
Susie

The Wedding 12/11/05 By John Schmit and Barbara Lawrence
Approximately 35 family and friends were there to see the wedding of Jan Cason and Daryl Lawrence. The afternoon cermony was blessed with perfect weather and the Mount Vernon Gazebo in the Square made the picture perfect wedding. Daryl and Jan were wed by Zach Tunnel, the brides prospective son-in-law. The wedding group was caught up in the spirit of the moment and congratulated the happy couple with kisses and hugs. Afterwards, a reception was held at the bride and grooms home.See images of the wedding here. Meet the many family members who attended by viewing these pictures.
Sunday Morning 12/11/05 By John Schmit
Sunday morning with filled with sightseeing and picture taking. Barbara, Cheryl, John and Allen drove all around Mount Vernon as Barb described the many significant views in the area. While our tour was short, we did manage to get out and had many photo opportunities. Enjoy these selected pictures from our tour.
Flying, Shooting, and a Party 12/10/05 By John Schmit
Our day started out with a flying tour of the area as Daryl took Doug, John, and Allen for a ride in the Priefert corporate plane. It was fun to see Daryl's property from the air.
When we got back, Daryl brought out the firearms and many took a turn shooting at the paper targets. From semi-automatics to shotguns and pistols, we had a wide range of guns to choose from. Later in the evening we had a wonderful dinner and party. Everyone enjoyed the good food, drink and stories that were shared. Check out this selection of pictures from the day.
We've Arrived! 12/09/05 By John Schmit
Hello East Texas! It's been a long day but well worth it as John, Cheryl and Allen arrived at Barbara's before 9pm. With a transfer in Denver, our flight to Dallas was very smooth and on time. On the way out of Dallas, we stopped for a quick hello with Vanna and Dean. It was so good to see them again.
Arriving in Mount Vernon we found Daryl, Jan, Deanna (Jan's daughter), Doug, Joanie and Barb just having a good time. Of course, after we arrived, the beer flowed and there were many stories told. It was a great introduction to Jan and her family.
There are many plans for the weekend, so, stay tuned as we bring you more of our family fun.
My New Slippers 12/07/05 By Daryl Lawrence
Good Morning All 12/05/05 By Frank Bingham
It's Monday morning here in Lufkin and I am tired from driving.
Yesterday I went up to Bobbie's house in Mount Vernon for a day visit
and
had a great time. I left here at 3 A.M. because it is about 160 miles
up
there but on small roads with many small towns to slow one's travel
speed. The trip was nice as there was no one at all on the road that
early on Sunday.
I got to Bobbie's about 7:15 or so and was so sleepy that I had to take
a
30 minute nap. After than however we were off like a shot doing
things.
Bobbie had sent off for and received a Bear Cat scanner. It is small
but
the number of things it will do is mind boggling if you can ever
decipher
the manual that tells you what is available. The radio works well but
it
is very far from "automatic" which is what she thought she was getting.
I also brought my new laptop computer to play with. I got it the other
day on sale at Best Buy and have enjoyed it since. My old laptop was
just getting to the point where it will still do what I need but has no
capability to do DVD's and only has one access port for plug in items.
Aside for that it has Win 98 which has become limited in itself.
We went over to Daryl and Jan's house mid morning and had a nice visit.
Daryl has redone the living room area and it looks so nice. Later on
Bobbie and I went to have lunch at a Old fashion restaurant -- the kind
where they actually cook the food rather than opening pre-done frozen
stuff and microwave it. It was tasty and plentiful. A nice lunch
indeed.
I left to return to Lufkin about 3 as I was concerned that it would
take
me a good deal longer to get home on Sunday afternoon/evening than it
took to come in the morning. Bobbie had given me a tip about getting
around "Tyler" Texas by taking a loop road. That was such a big
savings
in time as traffic in Tyler was jammed. The loop was busy but moving
right along. In all I got back here in about 4 hrs and 30 minutes.
It was a long driving day but I had a wonderful time and was so happy
that I got to go as I am going home in another week or so and this may
have been my last chance.
I case I do not get to say this again ------- have a Merry Christmas
and
a great New Years. Frank
Frank Visits 12/04/05 By Barbara Lawrence
When I talked to Frank on Fri. evening, he told me he would like to drive up here today from Lufkin and would get here early in the morning. We talked last evening and he told me he planned to leave about 3 a.m. this morning. He got here, at my house, at 7:15 and we had a good time just talking and working with his new laptop computer and my new police scanner. We went to Daryl's and Jan's a little after noon and stayed for about 45 minutes just yakking and checking out Daryl's handiwork in Jan's living room. Jan hadn't been feeling well this morning so Frank and I went to lunch by ourselves at Hubbard's. We came home and yakked some more and he left at 3:15 p.m. to go back to Lufkin. As he said, he realized it might take him much longer to go back than it did coming because he didn't have ANY traffic this morning - he was practically the only car on the roads. Frank is leaving Lufkin on 12/15 to go back to CA so wanted to make sure he got up here to see us before he leaves. He got to meet Jan and see Daryl again which he wanted to do while he was here. Of course, after he left I remembered I hadn't taken a picture of him while he was here.
We're Out! 11/28/05 By John Schmit
After seven years, we have finally closed the storage room and brought our stuff home. We began preparing for this Thanksgiving week project early in the month, when we installed the additional garage door opener. We also bought three more steel shelving units. Cheryl planned for this major move by taking a five day weekend over the holiday.
First, we rearranged where stuff was in the garage, then began the three trips (and 150 miles) in the van to get the last boxes home. These boxes held old videos, photo albums, and many books. It's been a lot of fun looking at things we haven't seen since we left California. We managed to get most items sorted and put away already.
We've also taken a van load to the Goodwill and have another expected to go tomorrow or Wednesday. Tonight, both vehicles are parked back in the garage. Now, it feels like we've finally finished moving into the house. The challenge - where to put this last load.
Good Morning to all! 11/20/05 By Frank Bingham
It is Sunday morning and quite cool down here in this part of Texas. I
walk every morning for about an hour and a half before going to work.
When I first arrived it was pleasant, in the early morning so sweat
pants and shirt was just fine but now it is frosty at 5:45 when I
leave. I am considering getting some gloves and a pull over hat as my ears and
hands really get chilly now. I carry my little digital camera with me all the time when walking and have caught some interesting animal life in my exploring. Attached are
a few pictures taken mostly in the afternoon when I walk again. I have also included a picture of my normal work day. The number of things to
see here is limited but the natural beauty of this area is in
abundance.
I am going to try to get some shots of the beautiful birds that seem to
come and go as I seldom see the same kind very often.
I am on the down hill slide now toward going home. I am leaving on the
15th of December to be home for Christmas and New Years then the big
question arises as to whether or not I will return here. They want me
to come back and stay for a much longer period but I simply do not like it
here all that much nor is the work actually very interesting. I guess
it is old age creeping in but I no longer like being away from home and
family for months at a time. I guess I'll come to grips with the "Coming Back" question in the next few weeks but for now the very thought of having been here well over
half the time is reassuring.
I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving. I am probably going to be
working as this company is facing a dead line that does not allow much
time off...............
Best to all,
Frank
Thanks To All! 11/15/05 By Susie Devries
Thanks to all who sent me Birthday Wishes. I am now the ripe old age of 53 ----oh man------------ Had a wonderful birthday, quite with a few surprises. My great husband got me a food scale. I've been wanting one for quite sometime. This one is digital, will weigh anything from 1 ounce to 6 pounds. It also will give a readout of cal, fat, carbs, protein, sodium, and fiber if you put in a simple 2-3 digit code which is in the book that came with the scale. Ever been on a diet that says you can have one ounce of this or that and you have to try to decide how much one ounce is. Some labels give you an idea: cereal for example, one ounce may be one cup. But what about cheese in a block, how much is one ounce? I am not good at that sort of thing, so this scale will be a huge help to me and I just might loose a few extra pounds!
By the way, I asked for the scale, Bill didn't buy it cause I need to loose weight, in his eyes I don't need to. Must be those rose colored glasses. Take care everyone.

Hello to all the family from Texas! 11/13/05 By Frank Bingham
I am still here ( North of Houston) on my consulting mission but have
some time to walk around this beautiful country club where my office /
house is located. I thought I would send along a few pictures of what
I encounter when walking here.
My work is proceeding but is always a high pressure thing as companies do not call on people like me unless there is some rather large financial problem that over taken them. That is
certainly the case here but this is unusually complex with so many
companies are under one large umbrella. They have 22 different
companies to deal with the oil business they are in. The amount of data that is
passed amongst them is astounding. It is because of this volume of
data and no central computer structure lots of information is misdirected or
lost. In the end they are losing millions and have no real idea where.
That is what I am here to figure out and then create a computer program
structure that will streamline what is done in the future.
Well, enjoy the pictures as it is truly beautiful here. maybe it seems
extra nice to me as the desert, where I live, looks very much different
than this.
Love to all .......... Frank
Big Milestones! 11/01/05 By Susie Devries
Big milestones for Baby Michael. He now weighs 18.5 pounds and for all his birth problems and all, seems to be growing well. I thought he weighed more, he sure feels heavy, especially after holding Baby Jade who weighs a whopping 8 pounds 3 ounces now at two weeks old.
Baby Michael also said his first words yesterday, DADA! AND he cut his first tooth! Its a bottom one. We are so tickled. You can see his top teeth forming those bumps, so they won't be far behind. At 15 months old, this may seem like slow progress, but for us, it's just plain wonderful! We never thought when he was born at 26 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound 14 ounces that we would see these exciting times. God has blessed us like crazy!!

Visit Update 10/28/05 By Lisa Lawrence
Hi There Again!
Today was the last day Nana and I had to goof off here in Texas as I go home tomorrow morning. Boy, did we have a blast!!!! We drove to Paris this morning and it was a gorgeous day again! We took some pictures next to the "Eiffel Tower". Nana had her Dr appt. for her knee shot, we ate lunch, headed back for Nana's hair appointment and then met up with Dad and Jan. We all went over to Priefert's ranch for a horse demonstration show which was something neither of us had ever seen - totally different. They had 6 draft horses that are trained to do all kinds of shows and are absolutely awesome - they are all black. I think they are called "Texas Thunder" and when all six of them are running together, they sound like thunder they are so loud as they get in front of the stands. This was all done on the Priefert ranch right in Mt. Pleasant. I have been Nana's chauffer the last two days and I have learned my way around as Nana let me get to know where we were going without her telling me.
Love,
Lisa
Visit Update 10/27/05 By Lisa Lawrence
Well Nana and I were going to go into Louisiana today, but our plans didn't work out so well. So, we took a drive to Jefferson instead. We ate lunch, did some sight seeing, and did some more shopping. It was a beautiful day!
Tonight we went to dinner over at the lake and of coarse took more pictures. I just can't get enough of those.
Tomorrow, our plans are to go to PARIS! We'll let ya'll know how it goes. Bye for now.... Lisa
Fall Colors 10/27/05 By Susie Devries
John and Cheryl, what beautiful colors you have now! Our trees are still pretty green and I don't think we will see the beautiful colors again this year. Our summer was dry, fall was dry, and it's still fall, so it's still DRY!! Without the moisture, the trees lack that pretty color. I love the red maples though, man they do get intensely red don't they!!
All is well here in Arkansas. Had a couple cold nights, frost on the punkin in some places. I brought in most of my plants, the others I covered. This weekend the 'monster' will get it's 'haircut' and the trimmings will be put in a big plastic container with water and a sign "FREE, TAKE ALL YOU WANT" I do this every year, and the trimmings disappear like magic. What is not taken after a week goes out with the trash.
All's quiet on the home front. Babies went home last Friday. There was a new sound in the house. After a week of kids, I think the sound was quiet. :) Any who---Mom and Dad and kids are all doing well. Robert and Janae went out to their house last night. Michael and Robert built a fire outside in the fire pit, Angelique had great fun getting 'ticks for daddy'. :) Guess that's it from here.
Hi Y'all! 10/25/05 By Lisa Lawrence
I arrived on Sat. afternoon, went to visit "Popsie", left there and went to Jan's house where I met her for the first time. I had dinner with Dad & Jan and then they brought me to Nana's. On Sun. I went with Dad to the hanger to wash the plane, went to Wal-mart , then went to Jan's parents house where I met them and her sister. On Mon. Nana took me to Jan's house so her and I could have lunch with my Dad and then all three of us went flying to Gilmer to have the oil changed in the company plane. That evening Nana, Dad, Jan and I all went to Longview , about an hour away to eat dinner with Jan's kids. We had a long night, by the time we got back home it was just after 10 or so, but it was a good night! Jan and her family are VERY NICE people as with everyone back here.
Today is Tuesday... Nana and I had the best time just out driving around. We took a drive East to Texarkana- on the Texas, Arkansas line about 85 miles one way. We made an adventure out of it! We went on a tour of a very old house called Ace of Clubs, which is a museum. Ate some BBQ lunch and went shopping. Tonight Dad and I got ourselves fixin' to git the guns out and do some shootin' over yonder after he got off work. (See pictures!)
See I am learnin' the Texan speech! So everyone get on your boots and come on down!
Bye, Bye

Wilma 10/24/05 By Heidi Schmit
Hurricane Wilma made land fall near Naples in South West Florida around 0630 in the morning as a Strong Category 3. In the Tampa Bay area where I live only got Tropical Storm winds. Its started last night around 8 pm with lighting and thunderstorms. We lost power a couple of times throughout the night and also during the day. I was woken up by Chloe around 7 am this morning and took a look outside. The wind was blowing pretty strong with gusts up to 45 mph.
| File Photo Patio Debris |
There were no damages to the bay area except for some tree limbs and leaves on the ground due the strong winds. Hurricane Wilma left Florida around noon today as a category 2. Throughout today it will be very windy and also colder than usual due to the cold front that pushed Hurricane Wilma to the south. This morning it was 54 degrees and during the day its going to be in the low 60's. The rest of the week should be the same, the highs in the 60's and the lows in the low 50's. This is a drastic change from yesterday with the high in the high 80's and the low in the 70s with 100% humidity. The only debris that I have is some leaves and flowers from my plants on my patio.

Grandbabies! 10/16/05 By Susie Devries
Grandbaby # 4 is here! Her name is Jade Marie McWilliams. She weighed in at 7 1/2 pounds and measured 19 1/2 inches long, and she has lots of hair! No pictures as yet, I am currently extremely busy taking care of Jade's other sisters and brother. I've attached pictures of Michael, at one of his quieter moments, Chloe, just being cute, and Angelique at one of her quieter moments-- :) I will send pictures of Jade as soon as I can get them. Right now, travel is restricted to taking the babies for walks. :)
Love to all,

Back To Normal 10/13/05 By Daryl Lawrence
I haven't been able to play any games on line, for over 2 weeks now!!!!? Sure seems weird, but also feels like I am back to a "normal" way of living again, not being on the road and gone all the time. Next Tuesday, I will have an "overnighter" in GA with 2 guys, then return Wednesday. Only about a 2-3 hour flight each way, so no biggy.
The only cattle I "played" with, was on Tuesday, where they ran em through the corral, alley's and then we had to man the "shute" and catch them, press em, then release em. No big deal with the machine they sell either, all done with levers and not much muscle involved to hold a 1,400 pound cow. They use it for holding them in place for either doctoring, branding, pregnancy matters, etc... Got a picture of me doing it, but it's in a frame along with 2 other ones, a group picture and the other standing next to "Radar", the tallest and biggest living horse in the world, guiness book of record holder.
I got my cam going, but still need to mount it in a different place. All the windows where the computer is, has screens from top to bottom, so gotta figure out this dilmema now.
On The Road Again! 10/12/05 By Allen Manese
After 2 years of not having it I have finally renewed my license. Total cost to pay off the tickets was $916.00, however, they agreed to settle for $860.00. So I am now on the road, and very happy about it. Insurance was $525.00 for a 6 month policy, $150 to start and $125 a month for 4 months, and 2 months free (that's just how Geico does it). Well I thought you should know, so there it is!
Golf Outing 10/12/05 By Roger Schmit
Just got back to Milwaukee, already hate it.
I had Barb's sons Matt and Scott along with Matt's brother-in-law Rick
up last week-end. Sort of a guys golf get away. They got there Friday
afternoon about 4 o'clock and as soon has they were unpacked we were
out golfing. We finished up at 6:30 and we could barely see because the
sun set at about 6:05, plus the temperature was about 40. I had a pot
of chili cooking in the crockpot so after going in the club for a
cocktail, we had dinner ready when we got home. They brought what has
to be the worst movie ever made with them, "Napoleon Dynamite" so after
dinner we watched that. After the movie we went back to the club for
drinks. All I will say about that is the old man was the only one not
looking for aspirin in the morning.
Saturday was a beautiful fall day and we had a 12:20 tee time at
Timberstone Golf Course. As you can see from the pictures, there were
deer everywhere. Scott and I beat Matt and Rick in a 2 man scramble, 87
to 85. After golf we went to "The Blind Duck Inn" for Margerita's and wet burritos. Stuffed like
pigs, Saturday night was a quiet night.
Sunday morning back to the club for brunch and then Scott and I watched
the Packer game and Matt and Rick went golfing again.
Around 3:30 they left for Milwaukee and I took a nap!
Pictures are posted.
Air Show 10/07/05 By Susie Devries and Robert McWilliams
Here are a few pictures Robert took when we were on base yesterday. The great big plane with wing tips up is a C-17, of course the Thunderbirds airplane, a couple of C-130's a B-24 & F-4, in one picture a couple Wart Hogs and some sort of helicopter. The work that Bill does on base involves taking the engines of the C-130's and tearing them down to bare bones nothing, fixing any problems and then putting them back together. We will have more pictures to send later on today or tomorrow. Bill and Robert have taken off to the base to get shots of more planes that have come in for the air show this weekend.
John's Vacation! 10/06/05 By John Schmit
What a great vacation! I was able to relax and enjoy many activities around the house. Cheryl and I spent a LOT of time together and enjoyed every evening. We even took in a special 3d Imax movie at the Pacific Science Center. Yes, the opportunity to eat was reflected in an additional few pounds, but they were well worth it.
Many projects got special attention this past week including car maintenance, yard and garden planting, and my favorite, website maintenance. Thanks to everyone for making the site possible. I was able to take time to add a few features to this page. Now it's back to the bus and staying on schedule.
Elvis's Vacation! 10/05/05 By Daryl Lawrence
While on vacation this week, I pursued what I had planned on doing,
which
was to look for a new job, one which would keep me close to home
instead
of "on the road" all the time. The first company I walked into, I
filled
out an application, thinking and stating that I was interested in a
management position, due to my 25 years in retail management in the
past.
When they saw I am a pilot, they asked if I could be interviewed right
now! Come to find out, their corporate Pilot, just quit, and they have
an immediate opening for one! They hadn't even had time to list the
job
as being available. When not flying the company executives around, I
will be in the inside sales department, at a desk with a computer.
Imagine that, just like when I was on the road in those motel rooms
with
Merlin... Anyway, everyone is welcome to check out the web site of the
company, Priefert Ranch Equipment,
where I officially start next Monday. I
have
absolutely not ONE clue, about farm equipment, but they don't care,
they
said they'd fill me in on everything...
Wedding 10/04/05 By Tricia Miller
Well, here are the wedding pictures we took. We were
married at the Montclair Library in a nice garden with
a gazeebo. The weather was nice and sunny and
thankfully not too hot. When we arrived, we met the
Best Man, Mike, and the Maid of Honor, Linda, inside the
library. We proceeded to get the marriage license.
Once that was done, we went outside and waited for the
official to come out and conduct the ceremony. Andrew
was really excited to be in the wedding and he was
very well behaved. While we exchanged our vows, we both
got quite emotional. It was amazing just looking into
each others eyes and pledging our lives together. Anyhow, when the official pronounced us "husband and
wife" we of course kissed and sealed the marriage.
There was a park next to the library that we went to
and took pictures. We had a lovely day and everything
went off without any problems. We thank everyone for
their blessings and well wishes.
Love,
The Millers
Married 10/03/05 By John Schmit
In a small ceremony at the Montclair, California library, Tricia Schmit and Wesley Miller were married today. Both cried in happiness at the ceremony. Tricia's son, Andrew was there to witness the event. Both will be enjoying a wedding gift dinner at the Olive Garden this evening. Pictures will be posted later.

Car & Cat 10/02/05 By Heidi Schmit
On Tuesday Sept. 27th, Chloe went in for surgery. She was getting spayed and declawed. She spent two nights at the vet and I picked her up on Thursday. She was the first passenger in my new car. When I picked her up the vet gave me special litter for her paws so they won't get infected and also a bottle of medicine that she has to take twice a day for 10 days. So far so good, no complications. She is not mad at me, in fact the opposite, she wants loving all the time. She's such a cute kitty.
See Chloe here.
It started out as towing my car to the dealership because the transmission would not change from Park to Drive. So I had to skip the rest of the day from work and hitch a ride from the tow truck to the dealership. When I got there, they took my car to get fix in the mechanics bay. I went inside and started talking to the sales rep about trading in my car. This started at 3:30 pm. They did an appraisal on my car and we started talking about what I'm looking for and sure enough they had what I wanted. We started doing paper work and low and behold I was driving away at 8:15pm with a brand new Volkswagen Jetta. It's a 2005, fully loaded with controls on the steering wheel, heated leather seats, and a sunroof. All in all, what could have been a bad day turned into a good one.
Check out the new car pictures!
A Good Week 10/01/05 By Blanche Glaeser
I resumed my pool therapy this week for the lower back pain I have. Along with using the new joint medication recommended by Barbara Schmit, I'm feeling pretty good. I did manage to lock Jumpy in the car at the pool, Tuesday. He set the alarm off as he tried to get out. That made for some excitement there. The casino's were kind and I was able to end the week ahead. I even got a few special projects finished with the help of my cleaning lady's son. Next, he'll help replace the smoke alarm batteries. A good week overall and my little Misty is just soooo cute!
Marriage Proposal 09/26/05 By Tricia Schmit I just wanted to tell everyone that
Wesley proposed to me last night. I, of course
accepted. He took me to Mt. Baldy after work last
night. We went up to "our" spot. We chatted for
about an hour or so and then Wes started acting
nervous. I asked him if everything was alright and he
said yes. Then he paused for a second and then
went down on his knee and took my hand and told me how
much he loved me and I'm sorry to say I can't remember
it all and then he asked me to marry him. I accepted
happily.

Anyhow, since there is no waiting period in California, we want to have the ceremony as soon as possible. We know it's fast but we are ready and feel no need for delay. We are happy and excited and I couldn't wait to share the good news.

Hurry-cane Rita 09/25/05 By Susie Devries Hi Everyone,
Guess Rita thought better than to 'mess with Texas' didn't she? :) As for Arkansas, well there are simply too many hillbillies here to mess with, they wouldn't care! :)) We had no damage from storms that went through. We do have a bunch of downed tree branches and leaves, but no major ones. Tomorrow will be rake the yard day and all will be well. A tornado was reported close to my son's house. (Michael & Nancy) Bill went out there, and all was well. He did encounter a big tree that had fallen across the road on the way to their house and the fire department was there trying to get things in order so people could pass. Thankfully no real damage.
Bobbie, I hope you fared well with this storm, it got to be a bit rambunctious for awhile. Don't blame you one bit for not battling the traffic that was on it's way out of Texas. I've read that the normal drive time was twice as long, which would be one huge headache.
I had the twins from Thursday Eve, through today. (Sunday) We thought Nancy was going into labor, she had been having contractions. After some much needed rest she is feeling much better and we are thinking she was simply exhausted. Gee I can't imagine why can any of you? A 27 month old child with energy to spare, twins who are 14 months but only about 4-6 in age, not one single night of a solid 8 hours sleep and 36 weeks pregnant on top of that. Oh help!
OK, that's it. All is well, no major damage to report from here. I am tired after having the babies, but I would not trade this tired for all the tea in China as they say.
Love to all,
Susie
Back Home 09/25/05 By Barbara Lawrence I stayed all night at Minerva's last night and then went to church with them this morning. I got home close to 1 p.m. and the front gate was closed. I could hardly get it back so that wind was strong yesterday. The metal tie was broken so I need to find something to tie it with because what is out there won't reach around anymore. It is still pretty windy today but more like a stiff breeze. Both of the rain gauges say we got about 1/8" below 1-1/2" and all the new trees are fine. We do have a few limbs down out back but nothing to speak of. The skirting was all out on the east side Daryl's bedroom as far as the hose container and from the north corner on the front of the house all the way to the hose bib so I put that back almost first thing. I still have to get my stuff out of the car but it's too hot to do that after all that I have been doing outside - I'm going to try and cool off a little first as my hair is so wet the water is running down my back and I'm sweaty all over so have to change my clothes. It was 84 inside the house when I turned the a/c on (I turned off the circuit breaker before I left). I forgot to check the pond but will be going back out - I doubt there's much water in it if we only got 1-1/2 inches. I got the humming bird feeder back out, the birds fed and fresh water out for them so guess everything is back to normal.
Quilts 09/23/05 By Judie Riggen Hi Everyone;
One of the girls that I graduated with makes quilts. My first thought was so do I, then I went and looked at the quilts she makes. She also writes books for children. I thought you might like to have a look see at the talent that was sitting right next to me and I had no idea! Her web site is www.aghines.com. I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Hurricane Plans 09/21/05 By Barbara Lawrence Even though Susie (my cousin) was sweet enough to ask me to come to Little Rock to stay with her until the hurricane is past, I have decided to go stay with my friend Minerva who lives about 15 miles north of me in a huge brick home - 4 or 5 bedrooms so there is plenty of room there for me. I have decided I don't really want to be on the highway going to Little Rock with as many people as there might be driving to get away from the storm. Our news now says that the worst of the winds and rain will be going further west than north but that our winds might be up to 50 mph gusts with lots of rain. Living out here on the prairie in a trailer is something I don't want to live through in the end of a hurricane even if we don't have any problems. Jan told me I could come stay with her but Minerva had asked me before I talked to Jan so I told Minerva I would come stay with her. I am the luckiest mother-in-law to be because I couldn't ask for a better wife for Daryl than Jan will be - when they get married next year.
Thought you might like to know what my plans are come Sat. as I will go out to Minerva's Sat. morning and the news said we will have this storm through Sun. Minerva claims me as her best friend and I feel the same way about her. She got married two years ago this last July 5th (she is 73) and her husband is one of the nicest men I've met - she is very lucky and they are the perfect couple. In case some of you don't know my cell phone number, it is: 903-466-1443 if you want to reach me over the weekend. If nothing else, I will have a weekend away from home.
Luv ya all,
Barb
Elvis To Wed 09/20/05 By Daryl Lawrence While on location in Ocala, Florida with my job, I was able to arrange a weekend for my girlfriend Jan Cason to come for a nice weekend visit. It was a few days of vacation relief for her.
We had a very relaxing time during her visit, and saw a few sites in this area. I surprised her Sunday afternoon with an engagement ring! We had discussed it in the past, but it is NOW official!

We are both very happy about it, and looking forward to our
future together, where I am no longer "on the road" with my job. The
date is still pending, and will most likely be a private ceremony, somewhere...
Catalpa Tree 09/19/05 By John Schmit Earlier this month, Cheryl and I planted a new tree in our back yard. We were not happy with the existing tree, as it was a left over from the developement. The new tree is a Purple Catalpa. The tree has very big leaves and hopefully will provide plenty of shade in the Summer. This tree should grow to a total height of 30 feet. That should take some time.

This Week 09/16/05 By Heidi Schmit This week I took my Final Exam for my American Government class and I received a 220 out of 250 which is really good. So my final grade for the class is 906 out 1000 which is an A-. In two weeks or so I’ll be starting my next class which is part two of American Government. Hopefully I’ll keep my GPA in the 3.0’s. Next week is going to be a busy week, Chloe goes in for surgery on Tuesday to get declawed and spade. Poor Chloe is going to hate me. I’ll be picking her up on Thursday. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Moonshadow Passes 09/13/05 By John Schmit Moonshadow, one of our cats, passed away Monday night at about 10:15pm. He died quickly, quietly and in comfort. Both Cheryl and I were with him in the end.
Moonshadow had been a part of our family for the last 13 years. He was a true "Garfield" cat - controlling, demanding and always ready to eat and sleep. He was a curious cat and would usually check out visitors.

Moonshadow eventually became John's cat and would sleep in his right arm at some point, every night. His loss is felt deeply. We know he is more comfortable now.
Please enjoy these favorite pictures of Moonshadow.
Yard Work 09/06/05 By John Schmit The end of season rush is here. We are trying to finish up our work on the yard before the weather breaks. Following the pour of concrete, we needed to level the ground between our neighbor's yard and ours. We both decided to replace the dead grass and found concrete sludge under the sod, which we removed. We put down some good dirt and replaced the sod.
Cheryl and I now are finishing the plantings. A little here, a little more there. Soon it will be time for indoor projects!

Trees 09/01/05 By Barbara Lawrence I'm sending you the pictures of the three trees that lived. The middle tree was a 5 gallon bucket and the other two were in 1 gallon buckets. Stacey came over and cut off the other two at ground level (that looked dead) and they now have new growth coming up. Daryl planted these trees on 8/3/05 and the middle tree wasn't even up to the top of the posts so that gives you an idea how fast these trees grow. I'm sure the little ones have grown at least 2 or 3 inches but I'm so disappointed that the middle tree will always be taller. Oh well, as fast as they grow it shouldn't be long before we have some good shade out front.
Thought you might enjoy.

Sod Removal 08/31/05 By John Schmit It was a long afternoon as what started out as a little sod removal turned into a complete removal. We decided to remove grass that was not growing well by the driveway and discovered concret slag underneath the sod. Along with lots of rocks, the slag had to go. Keith, our neighbor, came home from work and began helping. The next thing we know, we're finding concrete under his sod as well. By this time Cheryl had arrived with Allen and with all this muscle power, we decided to remove it all.
Taking the sod and the concrete out took about four hours. Everyone was exhausted by the time we finished. Next we'll put fresh topsoil down and new sod to level between the two properties. New trees are being delivered today as the home improvement saga continues.

Seniority Pays! 08/29/05 By John Schmit This pick for my fall work was the best ever! I was able to achieve all of my core requirements AND get some overtime. I do NOT have to go to downtown Seattle. They are closing the bus tunnel, which currently allows busses to bypass traffic on surface streets. The closure will be for two years as they retrofit the tunnel to include light rail. With all the extra busses on the surface, I didn't want to be there for the holidays.
My next hope was to NOT cross any bridges. The two major bridges between the Eastside and Seattle get very congested and busses get way behind schedule during rush hour. I will be staying on the Eastside and do not have to cross the bridges.
At the same time I was also able to get almost three hours a week built in overtime. That sure helps the paycheck. As I've said to others, this has been my best pick yet. I am truely watched over! I still will be working "nights", but will be home by 9pm on all but one evening. Life is good!
Visiting Heidi 08/21/05 By Daryl Lawrence The visit with Heidi was short and nice. She took me to the Air Force Base where she works and showed me around. Of course I took my camera with me, and forgot to take even one picture... Sorry about that. A
very nice Base too, RIGHT on the water of Tampa Bay on a Peninsula, with
walking paths and little piers for the service people to fish from.
Heidi tells me she has seen several Dolphins swimming right there in
front of her too. Of course an excellently groomed golf course there
too.
We ate at Church's Chicken (make mental note -stick to KFC in the
future), then back to her apartment. Got to play with her new kitten,
Chloe. Kittens are always cute, lots of jumping around and "I want to
chew on your fingers", very cute cat though.
Major thunderstorms on the way back to Ocala, so had to slow to around 40mph quite a few times,
couldn't see anything on the road, and lots of puddles to hydro plane
in...
When it rains... 08/19/05 By Chris & Erin Lawrence When it rains it pours!!! This time around it's all good news. We're praying that it stays that way!!

Project Finished! 08/18/05 By John Schmit The South side of the yard has it's main work completed. The retaining wall and fence are done. Tonight we just sat outside and enjoyed our new privacy. The concrete walk around the house will be appreciated when the rainy season starts (next week, I think). Looks like the worst of the summer is over here. Those first two weeks in August can be rough! Still, plenty of near 80 to keep that summer feeling for a while.
With all the yard work, we decided to skip planting this year. We will get fresh winter plants for the front and back gardens. We are also looking at trees. In the Great Northwest it's hard not to. But we would like to plant a nice shady tree for the patio in the back. We've seen a few we liked at the nursery, but still have to make a decision. Next, we have to put the plants back in the front garden and get the North side rock and junk dirt removed so we can plant there. Yard work pictures were recently added to our picture pages.
Allen was with us last Wednesday and was saying that too many people in the family have had computers crash lately. First Frank, then us, Susie got the Slows and even Allen had a motherboard burn up. MMMMMMM! We just went and replaced ours with a new, multi-media machine so we can easily burn family movies to DVD's. We even got a new printer to print right on the disks for that cool, professional look. At least the neat stuff is getting cheap enough we can afford it.
Keep sending those wonderful news items for the website. We all enjoy keeping in touch!
The Monster 08/18/05 By Susie Devries Hi There,
We are still in the slow mode of computers but email is useable. A bit on the slow side, of course, but it could be worse.
Summer is going in all it's glory giving us terribly hot days with a bunch of humidity. Thankfully we are about 1/2 way through August, September will be hot also, but not like August. Oh man!!
Here is a picture of The Monster. Every year I put that plant outside and it just goes nuts! In the fall I trim it way way back and put the cuttings in a bucket out front with a sign that reads: FREE!! TAKE ALL YOU WANT!! People see that, take some starts and go on their way. I will do the same with my spider plant. The little red begonias grow so well here but do not over winter. This year I put them in the strawberry pot. Squirrels eat my strawberries so I didn't bother with them this year.
Hope all is well for all of you in different parts of our world. Take care.

The Slows 08/12/05 By Susie Devries Hi Everyone,
We have the slows. Our nice fast computer got sick and died. It needs a new motherboard which will be here some time next week. In the mean time we are using the 'old' computer and dial up Internet. Oh man is it ever slow. Judie, I don't know if we will be able to chat or not!! In the meantime, please don't think I am ignoring anyone, I am simply not willing to waste so much time with dial up. Please be patient with us, this computer has a mind of it's own.
John and Cheryl, Michael and Bobby went to Mansfield MO. last week to visit Grandpa and Grandma McWilliams. Bobby has pictures on his digital camera that we are going to load on our computer when we get the new mother board. We will then send some pictures of their trip. They loved every minute of it and I think one of the highlights was Grandma's cooking.
It's hot here in AR. Today at 5:25 PM it was still 101, and that was actual temp, not a heat index figured in. Needless to say, I've stayed in quite a bit. I've had to water due to lack of rain, but that is to be expected in this area at this time of year.
Hope all is well with everyone. We are doing OK, the family is doing OK, kitties are doing OK. the twins are now 13 months old. Baby Michael had a hearing test on Wednesday and he passed it. That was good news. Apparently they have a special machine to test a baby's hearing when they cannot verbally respond. Fascinating what they can do now. Praise God, the babies are still here and growing.
Will let you all go for now. Take care. I hope to be back in the running again soon with the new mother board. Until then------well, it's the slows. You know, it's hard to soar with eagles when you fly with turkeys. :-)
Love to All,
Susie
Daryl Plants Trees 08/07/05 By Barbara Lawrence Daryl just planted these five trees - 3-5 gallon ones in the middle and a 1 gallon one on each end. They grow from 8 - 10 ft. a year and if they do good this year, Daryl is going to buy five more next spring and stagger them with these but put them just a little further out towards the west. With the strong winds we have here, we can't take a chance of them blowing over on to the house. Daryl put "bubblers" on each tree but I felt so sorry for him because it was 102 when he was digging the holes for these trees and then planting them - with no breeze. Now the wind has come up and looks as if it could rain any minute - which we're supposed to have this afternoon.
I will take pictures the first of each month because once the freeze comes, they lose their leaves for the winter. The leaves on these trees are HUGE so once they get some height, they should be some good shade for the house - at least eventually and also once he plants another row of them further out.
See the picture here.
Busy Summer 08/07/05 By Cheryl & John Schmit Daryl visits, yard work begins, many HOA Board meetings, and a major computer crash were some of the exciting events of just the last four weeks. Some we enjoyed, some we wanted, and others just happened. While there is still much to do, things do seem to be getting better. A very active Summer so far.

Home 12/10/07 By Barbara Lawrence
I made it back home by 2 p.m. today with no problems any part of my trip. I drove a total of 1,690 miles, round trip, and enjoyed every minute of the drive. I had an excellent time while I was in FL so it was a good experience. I stayed last night in a casino hotel in Vicksburg MS right on the Mississippi River - real neat place and it only cost $55 per night - for everyone as it was advertised along the interstate. I ate at the buffet in the casino and it was very good.

Pool 12/06/07 By Barbara Lawrence
Here is a picture of the pool as it finally got filled today. The pool men have to come back and finish hooking it up and all that has to happen there. I wish they would come tomorrow because I would like to see the thing operating before I leave. The picture of the bridge is going over the water between Panama City Beach (where Doug lives) and Panama City. Even though it's been cool here and windy, it's amazing how low the humidity stays. Most of the time it has been in the 30% and 40% except at night, which is normal for it to be higher.

Pool & Lucy 12/05/07 By Barbara Lawrence

House 12/01/07 By Barbara Lawrence
I'm attaching three pictures Doug took with his camera. The one he took from the road which shows the front of the house and the pool (when it's finished this week), one is taken from the front door looking out and the other one is a sunset picture Doug took last night. Once Doug gets the fence in around the pool and all the planting done, this whole area will be beautiful. We are going to have another "hot" day - supposed to get close to 80.

Wolverines 21 - Falcons 18 10/05/07 By Ryan Simmons
My football game was my best football game EVER!
We played against the Falcons (undefeated team). We were down two scores, then we scored plus the extra point. They scored again, and then we scored again plus the extra point. The score was Wolverines 14 - Falcons 18. We recovered a fumble and scored. I had to go in for Brian on offense for the extra point play. I blocked the best player on their team and we scored the extra point. The Falcons had the ball with 47 seconds to play. They slowly marched down the field. They were on about the 12 yard line, second and seven, with 6 seconds to go. For the last play they ran a bootleg with their best player and he got around the corners with no one in front to stop him. I ran him down from behind and tackled him. I saved the game!! We won 21-18. My team mobbed me at the end. The coaches and parents made a tunnel for us to run through. I felt more than excited and proud.

Mineola, TX 10/04/07 By Barbara Lawrence
We drove to Mineola TX (about 40 miles one way) again today so we could eat at a buffet there that we saw yesterday and take these pictures. I decided, and Dee agreed, that we needed to take some more pictures being it was her last day to take advantage of this. The weather was much nicer as we didn't have near as much humidity as we had a couple of days ago. Note the "Missouri Pacific" sign on the end of the caboose - the line where Cleo worked.

Went to Austin the next day and my camera battery died but got three pictures. We left there on 09/26/07 and drove through the countryside towards Galveston and stayed in Texas City that night. Got up on 09/27/07 and messed around Galveson for quite some time - pictures attached - and then drove as far as Jaspar TX where we stayed all night. Neat little town and had a good small supper in a real home cooking restaurant. Got up on 09/28/07 (Dee's birthday) and drove home but took a lot of back roads to get home. We arrived home about 5:30 on 09/28/07. Click here for the pictures.
Vegas Trip 09/24/07 By John Schmit
This year's trip to Las Vegas was totally different, we drove. It was a two day drive down and back. Cheryl and I took turns at the wheel. Originally, Cheryl had planned to fly back, but after the drive down, we decided she needed to help drive back. She called her boss and got an additional day off.

Guess Ally's tired of doing homework! 09/21/07 By Erin Lawrence
She just brought her homework to me with a question. I asked her 'he bought what?' She looked at it then finally realized she forgot the "r". I told her the answer was incorrect, and she was bummed that Chris wouldn't get to see it. That was a good laugh. :) Have a great day!

Parelli Conference - Colorado 09/07/07 By Daryl Lawrence
Nice surroundings for this shindig we went to in Pagosa Springs, Colorado on Thursday and Friday. We went to dinner in Durango the night we got there, to a "Fransisco's" Mexican restaurant, DON'T EVER go there if you're in that town, worst meal I've had in ages!! Of course for this time of year the streets weren't too awfully crowded, being the tourist town that it is. No school aged kids, only retired people walking around.

Aunt Vi's Birthday 09/04/07 By Roger Schmit
We went down to Milwaukee last Wednesday to celebrate Aunt Vi's 91st. birthday. Suzanne came from Grand rapids and Nancy and Frank came from Savannah. We were also joined by Frank's sister Judy.
We went to dinner at a restaurant on the lakefront called "Coast". The food was very good and the cocktails were even better. It was a very nice visit and Aunt Vi really enjoyed it. I have included a few pictures.

My Turn! 08/29/07 By John Schmit

Home Cams 08/24/07 By Susie Devries
If you look at my home cam after dark you can see my new outdoor accents. They are hummingbirds that change colors, from red to blue to green. They have a light sensor that comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn or whenever it gets light enough. They are sure pretty and Autumn just loves them. She points up to them and says Petty. When Janae came to pick her up she looked at Mommy said bird-petty and pointed to the birds. Then she told her Mama later cycle and Janae looked at her, all of a sudden here comes a motorcycle down the street and Autumn says cycle!!
Autumn In The Pool 08/24/07 By Susie Devries
Here are some pictures of Autumn in her pool. She is having a blast learning how to slide down the slide! With her floatie swim suit, she is more interested in sliding down since she has realized she doesn't go under as easy. Also she is very happy trying to catch bubbles!! Also, here is the result of all the fun in the pool!!

Telling On Myself 08/22/07 By Susie Devries
I have to tell on myself. I know all of you will get a good laugh out of this.
This morning I had a 9 AM appointment to get my hair cut. My truck is out of commission, (fuel pump) so I had to walk to my appointment. No big deal, the place I go to less than a mile away.

Bella 08/21/07 By Barbara Lawrence
I had to take Bella in again yesterday to have another claw taken out - the third time since I had her declawed. The vet said yesterday that she must be a "freak".
When I got up this morning at 6:15, she wasn't in bed with me so I checked in the front room and didn't see her. I had to go to the bathroom and there she was, laying curled up in the sink. When she lived in the trailer, she loved to sleep on the bathtub seat so I guess she missed that. I tried to get a picture but when she sees the camera, she gets out of the way fast, unless she is asleep and can't move as fast. She is some cat!!!!!!

Commuter Train 08/19/07 By John Schmit
This last week Cheryl started taking the train to downtown Seattle. They are doing major work on the freeway causing big delays, even for the busses. Even though it's pretty crowded, the train does arrive on time. It is a nice alternative to have.

We did lots of fun things like swimming, fishing, driving the gator to the haunted house in the woods. We went golfing, watched tv, and we went to the movies to see Underdog. - Aaron
