Birthdays 12/14/10

I went downstairs to the birthday "sing-a-long" and it was really fun. The man, Roger, who leads the singing and plays a guitar, has big binders with MANY songs along with a list so we know what song to choose. Most of the songs people wanted played were, of course, from the 40's, 50's & 60's.

X3985 Again 10/13/10
By Cliff Chamberlin
This morning Candy and I went to Gibbon Jct about 20 miles E of my house to see this steam engine again. This is where the UP scheduled to stop her and give her a big grease job. They do this every 2-3 hrs of running time. She was Westbound, heading home to Cheyenne WY. We saw her 2 wks ago on her way to St Louis.
Sure is a thrill to watch an old (1943) pile of iron and oil go by. I held my cell phone up with Jack on the other end. He said he just about thought, with all the hissing and groaning, he was there in the cab.
Next month the X844 will come by and I'll be there again.

Auburn Airport 09/22/10
By Barbara Lawrence
Darlene and I drove over to the Auburn Airport this morning. It is right next to 5 miles from where I live. This is a huge private airport. I didn't count how many rows of hangers they had. I didn't get a picture of them because the street beside them was so busy and there was no place to pull over to take a picture.

The Day 08/25/10
By Barbara Lawrence
Darlene and I went grocery shopping this morning, brought the groceries home and then drove to Redondo and had 1 piece. of fish with chips. We left there (no shade to sit in) and drove to Saltwater State Park where we first sat at a table in the sun then found a table in the shade under the trees. We watched this big ship come on this side of the island and by the time we were there for a little over an hour, we were drained just from the fresh air and the water. We came home and had to walk from the back lot where I parked my car because they're supposed to power wash our parking lot.

Gig Harbor 08/04/10
By Barbara Lawrence
Gig Harbor was a neat place but too many hills to climb - both Darlene and I had problems. We ate at a super nice restaurant right on the water called Tides Tavern, an old established place that must be number one in town. We had 11:30 reservations so Mick (driver) had time to take us on some side trips. He took us up to a view place so I could get pictures of the bridge but it was totally socked in with fog so couldn't get it. I took pictures out of the front window of the bus coming home but didn't have any idea what I got because I just held the camera out in front of me - I was in the front seat.

Becca's B-Day Party 07/25/10
By Cliff Chamberlin
Becca had quite a 3rd b-day party today. Dan and Margaret rented a 13x13 air filled (with compressor to keep up the air) bouncing castle. It would hold weight wise, 9 little kids, 5 bigger ones or one big kid (Daniel). The company put it up this morning at 8am and will come and get it at 7pm this evening. Becca called it a butterfly castle, which was the theme of the party to begin with. It did have wings up top.

A great time was had by all, including the big bouncer. Mugsy served hamburger lunch with the plenty of trimmings. The cake was great as well. None of the kids wanted to go home. The 4 yr old little girl across the street put up the biggest fuss about going home. Mugsy told her mom to bring her back after her nap.

Garden Update 06/26/10
By Daryl Lawrence
The garden is doing TOOOO good these days, we can't seem to give it, sell it, freeze it, can or pickle it, faster than it's growing!! We aren't even to the corn, pickling cucumbers, watermelon, tomatos and cantaloupes yet, probably another month before those get ready. Wish I could ship some to the northwest. I didn't know beforehand, that Butternut squash make vines like watermelons and go out into the yard!? Actually, INSIDE the garden they go every which way too. Live and learn for the future.

Flowers 06/24/10

It's hotter than blue blazes right now! 100+ degrees and then factor in the humidity. Our A/C went out on Sunday, and sleeping has been miserable, so has being awake for that matter!!! Hopefully today the A/C man will fix our air and we can be comfortable again.
In the meantime, as hot as it is out side, I took some pictures of flowers around my yard. I just thought they were so pretty and delicate despite the fact that it's so awful hot!!

Garden Pictures 06/06/10
By Frank Bingham
I am sending a few pictures of my garden and of some Snap Peas, Onions and Tomatoes I picked this morning. The garden veggies are as good as ever but some of the garden did not produce as much as usual. I only got 8 Broccoli out of 12 planted and the exact same thing with the Cabbage. Since these two were planted in the same part of the garden I am going to dug that all up and put in some new mulch. I have no idea what could be wrong there if anything.

I stayed outside mowing and cleaning. Very nice day, 78 and a little breeze.

The delivery of the couch went smoothly, the guys brought up the couch in 2 pieces and then the pillows. This couch is a lot lighter than the older one because there isn't a bed inside of it. So here are the pictures that I took. Enjoy!

Garden Update 05/18/10
By Daryl Lawrence
As you may see in the photo, that squash leaf that is a little over 2 weeks old, is now about a foot across in size!!!!?!?!? I guess the whole truckload of chicken poop from Jan's friend's chicken houses did the trick on nutrients!! Best size plant I've ever had, can't wait to see the size of the vegetables I get off of these! We may have to set up a cart on a corner in town to sell these, being we will have TOO many of them to eat!

By Susie Devries
These are pictures that Bill took when he was in Lima, Peru earlier this month.
(Bill says) "I finally got around to downloading the pictures from the company camera. In the first one the tall building, just left of center is the Thunderbird Principal Hotel, where I stayed. In the last picture, the tower is actually a brightly lit cross, which you can see from the hotel at night. the rest of the pictures are of the beaches and the fishing docks."

Chamber Ribbon Cutting 04/21/10
By Barbara Lawrence
Yesterday was my last Chamber meeting and today was my last Ribbon Cutting with the Chamber. Our Place is a new restaurant in town that joined the Chamber so that's the reason for a ribbon cutting. The gal from the newspaper took pictures so I asked her if she would mind taking a picture on my camera also being I'm leaving and she said "no problem". So this is the picture of all of the people that turned out on a beautiful day - and warm.

Deck Redo - Before & After 04/21/10
By Susie Devries
Here are some before and after pictures of our back yard. The big oak has grown so much that it warped the decking around it and caused it to come loose. So we yanked it up, cleaned it out and then Bobby and his boss came over, put a new wall on the outside, filled it in with soil and topped it off with mulch. I'm debating putting plants in there. If I do, it would have to be shade loving plants. We will see.

Spring Is An Active Time 04/19/10
By John & Cheryl Schmit
Our Purple Catalpa tree is no more. We got tired of the debri and the short time span the leaves were out. So, as we planned for other use of the space, we cut the tree down before it got too large for us to handle.

Snow Day 03/24/10
By Cliff Chamberlin
Mugsy told me this morn that she had about 12" of snow. No pre-school for Matt and no work for Dan today. His company is in Littleton CO and if the Littleton schools are close, then his company is closed as well. Looks like Ben played inside. The big kids and Dan are having a great snow day for sure.

Oreo 03/24/10
By Susie Devries
This is Oreo, our newest member. His former owner is being deployed to Iraq and she wanted a good home for her precious baby. My good friend recommended me. We made arrangements and I picked Oreo up yesterday afternoon. He is a very happy bunny, likes being on a harness and leash. He loves to be held and talked to. Being harness and leash trained he can have outside time in the back yard on the retractable clothes like while we are outside also. I'm looking forward to having many happy times with our new bunny.

St. Patrick's Day Parade 03/13/10
By Cheryl Schmit
On my way to work I heard there was going to be a St Patrick's Day Parade just a block away from my building. The Parade started at 12:30 so I was able to run down and watch during my lunch break. The weather co-operated with no rain, not too cold, and just a bit of wind. It started with several groups of marching bag pipers in plaids and continued with dance troupes, unicyclists, dogs & hounds, DeLorean cars, the Seafair Pirates (with a working canon), and marching school bands. Lots of green on display!

You're on fire, GET OUT OF THE PLANE 02/10/10
By Daryl Lawrence
Took the company owner and Account sales reps to DFW Monday morning. After I landed it seemed like it was "hard to taxi", and felt like the right main tire was rather flat, so taxied to the General Aviation ramp as usual. As we pulled in, the guy comes running out and says, "you're on fire, GET OUT OF THE PLANE".

We woke up to a winter wonderland this morning. Northern AR was supposed to get snow, we were supposed to get rain. It's so pretty outside. I was lucky enough to have Autumn today and we have been out to play in the snow, go for a walk, look at my neighbor's daffodils that are ready to bloom and then come in for a cup of cocoa and a treat!!

January Update 01/31/10
By John Schmit
Not too much time around here. Starting after New Year's both Cheryl and I have had a tough time finding any free time. With the longer work days and just maintaining the household chores quiet together time has been rare. Hopefully as we get into February we'll have some weekend time to play.

A New Beginning 01/25/10
By Susie Devries
Here are some pictures of the house that Terry and the boys have moved to. It has a huge potential, as the living space is 5000 sq ft. Michael and Bobby are going to make over the shop into their own living spaces eventually. I'd take a wild guess and say the shop is as big as our house!! It is wired with electric, 110/220 and has several florescent lights in it. There is an area in the back that Terry wants to use to store his books. There is also a large door on the far side of that shop for easy access. When they moved in, everything was unloaded into the shop.

Snow 01/04/10
By Susie Devries
This was our big snow. It's all gone now. Doesn't stay long for sure. We might get some more on Thursday. The high for the day is only supposed to be 30 and the low that night is forecast for 10. We might light up the fireplace again. We had it going the other night, it was so toasty warm in the living room!! We will see what Thursday brings as far as any snow. I do know that we can't hold a candle to the snow in Iowa and Nebraska!!! Hang in there kids, spring will come!!
